Children’s Safety on the Playground

Turf Now!® has always put children’s safety first. In schools and playgrounds, parents are always concerned that their children could fall and injure themselves. In fact, one school in particular in the Blue Springs School District of Blue Springs, Missouri had reported during 2011-2012 that 11 breaks and sprains and 20 visits to the nurse due to complaints of mulch in their eyes had occurred in one school alone. After reviewing these numbers, the district had decided to try something new and install* Turf Now!® artificial grass in their playground. The results were so great that Turf Now!® ultimately received the John Preston Award for Child Safety, given annually to a group or organization that has made a difference in creating S.A.F.E. play areas for children.

After the synthetic turf was installed*, there were 20 percent fewer injuries and 15 percent more play time due to the faux grass not retaining water from rainy and snowy weather conditions. As a result, the school district decided to replace 33 playgrounds in the 12 schools within the district as soon as possible, instead of waiting two years as per their original plan.
